"Is he my twin flame?" "Is she my soulmate?" The internet is full of lists that promise to tell you. A birth chart cannot confirm a label, and a careful astrologer will not pretend otherwise. What two charts can show is the kind of bond you are in, what it is for, and what it asks of you. That is usually the question behind the label.
Why the labels do not help
"Twin flame" and "soulmate" are modern words for an old experience: meeting someone and feeling that the meeting was arranged. Karmic astrology takes the experience seriously and the labels lightly. A bond that feels arranged usually is marked in the charts. But the mark says what the bond is for, not what to call it, and the most intense bonds are often the ones with the hardest lesson, not the easiest love.
Three kinds of bond the charts show
- The familiar bond. Strong contacts to the south node, the Moon and Venus. Instant recognition, deep comfort, and the risk of repeating something old rather than building something new.
- The teaching bond. Saturn, Chiron or Pluto between the charts. Weight, duty, transformation; the relationship changes both people and does not let either stay as they were.
- The forward bond. Contacts to the north node and to the Sun. Less instant, more demanding, and often the relationship in which a person becomes who they came to be.
Most real relationships mix the three. The report says which one leads.

An example of how it reads
Imagine a relationship where his Sun sits on her north node and her Pluto squares his Moon. The first contact says: with him, she grows into her direction. The second says: the growth passes through a struggle about control and feelings that neither of them can avoid. Is that a twin flame? The report would not use the word. It would say: a forward bond with a teaching bond inside it, worth the effort if both are willing to be changed, and here is what each of them will have to give up.
