The north node: what is my life about?

The north node is the point in your chart that answers the question most people bring to an astrologer: "What is my life for?" It is not a planet. It is a direction. Here is how a karmic analysis reads it, and why it is read together with its opposite, the south node.

The two nodes

The lunar nodes are the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path. They always sit opposite each other in the chart. In karmic astrology the south node describes what you brought with you: skills that come easily, habits you fall back on, the comfortable place. The north node describes what you came to learn: the direction that feels unfamiliar and, when you take it, strangely right.

Both matter. A life lived only at the south node feels safe and slowly empty. A life pushed only toward the north node feels brave and exhausting. The analysis shows where the balance is for you.

Sign, house, and the planets that touch it

Three things decide what the north node means in your chart. Its sign gives the quality you are learning: for example, independence, patience, or trust. Its house gives the area of life where the lesson happens: work, relationships, family, health, the inner life. And the planets that touch it decide how hard or how easy the direction is. A planet on the north node is a helper you were given. A planet on the south node is a talent you may be hiding behind.

Why it is not a simple instruction

Reading the node alone leads to slogans ("you must learn to be more social"). Mónika reads it together with Saturn, Chiron and the eclipses before your birth, because they usually describe the same story from different sides. Saturn shows the responsibility that makes you grow. Chiron shows the old wound that sits on the road. The eclipses give the background theme. When all of them point in one direction, the analysis can say so with confidence. When they disagree, that disagreement is the most useful thing in the report.

An example of how it reads

Take a north node in the sixth house, with Saturn in the twelfth. The comfortable place is the inner world: reflection, faith, keeping out of sight. The direction is daily, practical service: a craft, a schedule, a body that is looked after. The person may have spent years thinking about the right work while never doing the small daily version of it. The report would say that, and it would also say where the timing helps, because the nodes move and the current transits show when the door is open.

What the analysis gives you

The nodes are one chapter of the personal karmic life-path analysis, which reads your whole chart as one story. If your question is only "what is my direction", say so in your e-mail: the report then gives the nodes the most space.
