What Chiron shows
Chiron marks the old wound: a sensitivity you did not choose, usually visible early in life, which does not fully heal and does not need to. The myth that gave Chiron its name tells of a healer who could not heal himself and taught others instead. That is the pattern the chart describes. Where Chiron sits, you are easily hurt, and, with time, unusually able to help others who are hurt in the same way.
House and sign
Chiron's house shows the area of life where the wound lives: the first house, being seen for who you are; the fourth, home and belonging; the seventh, partnership; the tenth, standing in the world. Its sign shows what the wound feels like from the inside: for example, not being enough, not being allowed, not being safe. The aspects to the Sun, the Moon and Venus show how deeply it touches your identity, your feelings and your love.
Why it is read together with the nodes
In karmic astrology Chiron is rarely read alone. When it sits near the south node, the wound belongs to the inheritance: it came with you, and the comfortable place is organised around it. When it sits near the north node, healing the wound is the direction of the life. When it makes a strong aspect to Saturn, the wound and the lesson are the same thing. These combinations are what turn a list of placements into a story.
An example of how it reads
Imagine Chiron in the seventh house, in opposition to the Sun. In relationships the person is drawn to partners who need help, gives it generously, and ends up feeling invisible. The opposition to the Sun says that the sense of self is at stake each time. A karmic analysis would describe the pattern, name the kind of partner that repeats it, and show, from the nodes and Saturn, what a relationship that does not repeat it would ask of this person. Often it also shows when, in the current transits, the pattern is easiest to change.
